The two-locus model with sex differences in recombination.

چکیده
The criteria for stability of the equilibrium with D=0 are obtained for the two locus model with multiplicative or symmetric fitnesses when the recombination values in males and females are different. It is shown that if r is defined to be equal to the average of the recombination values in males and females, then the criteria are exactly the same as in the standard two locus model.-The equilibrium values with D not equal0 are obtained for the symmetric fitness model. At this equilibrium, the absolute value of D is always greater (for the same average recombination value) if the recombination values in males and females differ than if they are equal.

Sex-specific recombination rates and allele frequencies affect the invasion of sexually antagonistic variation on autosomes.
The introduction and persistence of novel, sexually antagonistic alleles can depend upon factors that differ between males and females. Understanding the conditions for invasion in a two-locus model can elucidate these processes. For instance, selection can act differently upon the sexes, or sex linkage can facilitate the invasion of genetic variation with opposing fitness effects between the s...
متن کاملPronounced differences of recombination activity at the sex determination locus of the honeybee, a locus under strong balancing selection.
Recombination decreases the association of linked nucleotide sites and can influence levels of polymorphism in natural populations. When coupled with selection, recombination may relax potential conflict among linked genes, a concept that has played a central role in research on the evolution of recombination. The sex determination locus (SDL) of the honeybee is an informative example for explo...
متن کاملGames in tetrads: segregation, recombination, and meiotic drive.
The two alleles at a heterozygous locus segregate during meiosis, sometimes at meiosis I and sometimes at meiosis II. The timing of segregation is determined by the pattern of crossing-over between a locus and its attached centromeres. Genes near centromeres can exploit this process by driving against spores from which the genes separated at meiosis I. Other genes, located distal to centromeres...
متن کاملGene Conversion Occurs within the Mating-Type Locus of Cryptococcus neoformans during Sexual Reproduction
Meiotic recombination of sex chromosomes is thought to be repressed in organisms with heterogametic sex determination (e.g. mammalian X/Y chromosomes), due to extensive divergence and chromosomal rearrangements between the two chromosomes. However, proper segregation of sex chromosomes during meiosis requires crossing-over occurring within the pseudoautosomal regions (PAR). Recent studies revea...
متن کاملDivergent Evolutionary Trajectories of Two Young, Homomorphic, and Closely Related Sex Chromosome Systems
There exists extraordinary variation among species in the degree and nature of sex chromosome divergence. However, much of our knowledge about sex chromosomes is based on comparisons between deeply diverged species with different ancestral sex chromosomes, making it difficult to establish how fast and why sex chromosomes acquire variable levels of divergence. To address this problem, we studied...
